Julien Pacaud

L'Affiche Moderne is a great online resource for affordable limited edition prints. These are by Julien Pacaud, and I like the way these mix collage with painterly elements. Plus, I think color is critical in collage, and these are very well done.

Little Paper Planes

This online gallery just got a facelift. Little Paper Planes is a who's who of contemporary indy artisans including Jen Renninger, Ashley Goldberg, Kate Bingaman-Burt, and Mike Perry. A favorite stop for affordable prints. (Pictured: Leah Giberson, Rod Hunting, Jen Renninger)

Mike Lemanski

Mike Lemanski has a way with type. A recent graduate of Bradford School of the Arts, his work uses text as an art element -- graphic and interesting.

Kareem Rizk

Rizk is a master of collage. His use of vintage advertising with text and color is interesting and always very beautiful. I love the use of type in art-- bold shapes that are graphic and interesting in themselves, and that can add another level of "message." From the materials for his current on-line exhibit at Phone Booth Gallery in California: "In a way, the recycling of images and paper in the collage work is a reflection of the recycling process which occurs in every arbitrary facet of modern society - the recycling of lifestyle choices, self image, fashion, entertainments, technology and especially the educational system and curriculum." Rizk's prints are very reasonable ($25 or less) and are available through his site, his etsy shop, and BlueFlip art.

L’Affiche Moderne

This new French e-shop selling posters from photographers, graphic designers and children's illustrators just opened an English site. Each poster is a numbered limited edition of 300. For the moment they present mainly French artists but will soon present many other international artists. There are some really nice things here, I especially love the top piece from Olivier Ratsi. BlueFlip Art

I like the proliferation of sites given to affordable artist prints like Jen Beckman's 20x200, Tiny Showcase, and now a new entry: BlueFlip Art. Matt Regan, who runs the site, sent me an email: "BlueFlip Art sells high-quality, archival giclee prints of works by emerging artists & illustrators which are priced with the goal to get them into the hands of as many people as possible - most are under $35. Additionally, participating artists get to choose a non-profit charity to donate 10% of the sale price of the print to. We currently benefit the World Wildlife Fund, Greenpeace, The Red Cross and Unicef among many others." (Print above is from J. Otto Seibold, $50.) BlueFlip website.
