Mary Iverson

Mary Iverson shares my fascination with shipping containers. She lives near the port of Seattle, and began making plein air studies of its cranes that gradually evolved into her current paintings of stylized shipping containers. I find these steel boxes incredibly interesting-- most of the worlds goods ship via these containers, and so most things in your home were at one time carefully packed into a container then carefully unpacked after spending 3-4 weeks on the ocean. It's like a world gift exchange. They are the carriers of our time-- the single most used packaging in the world.

I love her use of overlapping planes and the overall perspectives that merge with one another. There is a definite reference to time in her work and the color palette is beautiful!
