Always on the lookout for art I can afford, I'm a fan of LUMAS, the art photography site that my friend Cam told me about a year or two ago. Large format photography is stunning. It makes you part of the photo. Kari and I just went to see the Jeff Wall exhibit in Chicago and the huge photos make an impact. So partly, it's about scale, partly about subject. So if you can't quite manage the purchase of a Ryan McGinley (on my wish list), you can look to Lumas. Here are a few examples. The bottom picture shows our living room with a Frank Stoeckel photograph, “Eekholt" from Lumas.

The Jeff Wall exhibition left me a bit cold. The photos were so clinical and unemotional. I know they're really "significant" but I couldn't find a way in to the work, personally. But I do agree... large photos do make an impression... It's like he knows the largeness draws you in and intentionally counteracts that effect by keeping the content icily remote.
